  11. Earlier I posted for help on Zoom's ComStar in a new Pentium machine. Finally got
  12. response from Zoom. Before I go out and repurchase a ComStar (I returned the one I bought
  13. as it was unusable), has anyone else been-there-done-that, re the procedure below?
  14. --- And wouldn't it be easier to temporarily install the PnP modem in an ISA bus
  15.     machine and run the COM port assign utility by hand, the reinstall as non-PnP
  16.     on the PCI bus machine?
  17. --- And gosh, step 3 sounds kinda scary, and may affect rebooting?

  28. The "floppy drive controller error" problem you are having is due to a
  29. conflict due to the PCI BUS, Floppy controller starting address and the PnP
  30. modem starting address.  About 30% of the P5 systems have the same type
  31. controller that you do and exhibit this problem in one of several ways.
  32. Rockwell Int'l (the makers of the modem chipsets) is currently working on a
  33. workaround for this.

  35. In your Computers BIOS settings, try changing the PnP BUS type to ISA instead
  36. of PCI.  
  37. In Windows 95,
  38. 1. Remove all Comports but Com1 in the Device Manager.
  39. 2. Remove any modems (none but the Comstar should be in the computer at this
  40. point) from the Device Manager.
  41. 3. Remove the PCI BUS from the System Devices portion of Device Manager.
  42. 4. Restart the Computer and allow Windows95 (if you get this far) to install
  43. all new Hardware.
